We have been taught that in order to learn a language, we must first focus on memorizing some words. We then take these new words and we try to piece them together, only to learn that they don’t always quite fit or work in the order that they do in our mother tongue. We then scramble to learn how to properly apply grammar, but it tends to be elusive for a long time and can even change rules depending on the setting.
But how do kids learn? Or how does someone who moves to a foreign land pick up the language quickly and without the need for lessons?
The key is immersion.
It is a good thing to start with some words that you know in your target language, but after this, the goal should be reading along with or listening to content that is just a bit beyond your level of understanding.
Your brain is wired to naturally adapt to this and will start filling in the blanks and missing pieces, and the grammar will follow naturally from this. You will see after time how words are used in different sentences and scenarios and you will naturally begin to use them properly.
Learning a language should not be frustrating, daunting, or overwhelming. It should be fun, exciting, and motivating! Read along with us and take advantage of our videos and free PDF files to go along with each video, and before long you will be surprised at how much you are able to retain.
